As we move to the second part of our prayer, we move into a very counter cultural form of prayer, confession. Oh how we don’t like this section very much. It goes against a world that basis life on what feels right in the moment, what pleased the flesh. It intrudes on our perceived freedom and choice and asks us to seek something longterm, beyond the moment. It demands that we judge ourselves and to define boundaries for what is beneficial and good for us in the long run as well as what is good and beneficial for those we share community with. It demands an account of our participation in something larger than the simple me and seeks accountability to a social structure of our humanity that we cannot deny. In other words, it forces us to judge our life styles as those seeking to promote or restrict the quest of humanities ultimate end and for Christians, the pursuit of God’s kingdom reign. It forces us to see ourselves in light of the whole of creation and in light of God as creator.

However, it is truly the only place to go after adoration. How in the world can we stand before the creator, who set the earth spinning on the perfect tilt, precisely to the centimeter or better in range of the suns warmth (a cent. closer we become BBQ brisket, a cent. further we become frozen otter pops). As such, God doesn’t expect perfection, in fact, he expects that we will need him but it is only in our acknowledgment through confession that we humble ourselves and remind ourselves that God is God and we are the creature. While very good, still in need of his grand hand to bring about our redemption.

Please feel free to leave very personal confessions and to do so anonymously or you can email me directly if need be at

Starter Questions:

1) Where in your life do you keep struggling? Ask God to forgive you in your desire to control your destiny.
2) Have you spoken ill of a boss, a friend, a coworker? Ask God to forgive you and ask him to empower you to confess to those you have spoken ill of.
3) What habits, addictions or obsessions do you claim? Have you ever asked yourself the question, “I wonder if my [insert habit/addiction/obsession] is a problem?” In asking the question, you’re gut is speaking truth in areas that you need to confess.
4) How have you abused power or claimed power that did not belong to you?

Are we praying, yet?

Posted: Jan 11, 2008 in Prayer

Guys and gals, I know this is a new blog OR at least a new regularly updated blog but surely everyone can pray with me. Has our world really come to the point that we can no longer pray together ;). Of course, I am kidding at some level but I do want to encourage you, help me make this site one of powerful prayer by submitting our thoughts, needs, thanksgiving and pain to God so that he may overcome us by his power. If you don’t feel like praying publicly over this blog, simply let us know that you are praying along with us and for us as we seek to do God’s will.

In an effort to promote praying with me, I have removed the other 3 sections of prayer for now. So let’s just start with Adoration of God. Please join in as we lift our Father up in prayer.

Are you praying?

I love all of you and are praying for you!

Prayers of the people

Posted: Jan 8, 2008 in Prayer

Below is a prayer that follows along a basic outline of prayer. First, you will see the Lord’s Prayer followed by an outline for prayer based on an acrostic ACTS (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication). Many in our VineLife family have said that they do not know where to begin or what to pray for. I, too, often do not know what to pray. During such times and often even when I have words, I pray the Lords Prayer, which is the first part of the prayer. It is great for meditation and repetition.Believe me when I say that this prayer actually is more beneficial for me and speaks into my life and makes me aware of the opportunities that God has given for service and ministry to those he is seeking. I pray that this helps each of you as you seek to grow into the image of Christ each day.

Pray with me…

Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.
For Your is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever and ever.

• This week, the owners of La Dolce Vita Bakery, are considering closing up shop. While it might seem as though I am concerned for VineLife (VLC’s) hopefulness of using it as a place for our assemblies, I am not. Instead, please pray for clarity and discernment of the staff and owners at La Dolce Vita Bakery as I know they are under a lot of stress. Pray that God will provide for them, in His way, which is always bigger than our fleshly bodies can comprehend or understand. Lord be with them.
